'Syntax' means-

Transformation শব্দটির অর্থ হলো রুপান্তর। সুতরাং, যেকোন এক ধরণের Sentence কে অন্য ধরণের Sentence এ রুপান্তর করাই হলো Transformation of Sentences। তবে রুপান্তরের সময় আমাদের খেয়াল রাখতে হবে যেন Sentence এর মূল ভাব পরিবর্তন না হয়।

অর্থ, গঠন, Degree, হ্যা / না প্রকাশ ইত্যাদির উপর ভিত্তি করে Sentence কে বিভিন্ন ভাবে সাজানো যায়, তাই Transformation of Sentences ও বিভিন্ন ধরণের হয়ে থাকে।

গঠন অনুযায়ী ইংরেজি বাক্যকে তিন ভাগে ভাগ করা যায়। প্রতিটি ভাগের নিজস্ব গঠনশৈলী রয়েছে যা ট্রান্সফরমেশনের সময় অত্যন্ত গুরুত্বপূর্ণ।

১. Simple Sentence (সরল বাক্য):

যে বাক্যে কেবল একটি Subject এবং একটি Finite Verb (সমাপিকা ক্রিয়া) থাকে, তাকে Simple Sentence বলে। এতে কোনো প্রকার Subordinate Clause থাকে না।

• উদাহরণ: In spite of his poverty, he is honest.

২. Complex Sentence (জটিল বাক্য):

যে বাক্যে একটি Principal Clause এবং এক বা একাধিক Subordinate Clause থাকে, তাকে Complex Sentence বলে। এই ক্লজগুলো সাধারণত since, as, because, although, if, that ইত্যাদি দিয়ে যুক্ত থাকে।

• উদাহরণ: Although he is poor, he is honest.

৩. Compound Sentence (যৌগিক বাক্য):

দুই বা ততোধিক স্বাধীন বা Principal Clause যখন কোনো Co-ordinating Conjunction (and, but, or, yet, so) দ্বারা যুক্ত হয়, তখন তাকে Compound Sentence বলে।

• উদাহরণ: He is poor but he is honest.

Transformation Rules (সংক্ষিপ্ত গাইড)

বাক্যের অর্থ পরিবর্তন না করে এক গঠন থেকে অন্য গঠনে রূপান্তর করার কিছু প্রচলিত নিয়ম নিচে দেওয়া হলো:

ক) Too...to (Simple) = So...that (Complex):

• Simple: He is too weak to walk.

• Complex: He is so weak that he cannot walk.

• Compound: He is very weak and therefore he cannot walk.

খ) In spite of / Despite (Simple) = Though / Although (Complex):

• Simple: In spite of his working hard, he failed.

• Complex: Though he worked hard, he failed.

• Compound: He worked hard but he failed.

গ) By + Gerund (Simple) = If (Complex):

• Simple: By working hard, you can succeed.

• Complex: If you work hard, you can succeed.

• Compound: Work hard and you can succeed.

ঘ) Without + Gerund (Simple) = Unless / If...not (Complex):

• Simple: Without reading attentively, you will fail.

• Complex: Unless you read attentively, you will fail.

• Compound: Read attentively or you will fail.

Transformation of Degree

ডিগ্রি পরিবর্তনের ক্ষেত্রে নিচের টেবিলটি অনুসরণ করলে দ্রুত সমাধান করা সম্ভব:

Affirmative to Negative (সচরাচর ব্যবহৃত নিয়ম)

১. Only/Alone: ব্যক্তি বোঝালে None but, বস্তু বোঝালে Nothing but এবং সংখ্যা বোঝালে Not more than বসে।

• Affirmative: Only Allah can help us.

• Negative: None but Allah can help us.

২. Must: এর পরিবর্তে Cannot but অথবা Cannot help (+ ing) বসে।

• Affirmative: You must obey your parents.

• Negative: You cannot but obey your parents.

৩. Every: এর পরিবর্তে There is no... but বসে।

• Affirmative: Every mother loves her child.

• Negative: There is no mother but loves her child.
